Capital-Saratoga is known for its historic villages and eclectic cities, surrounded by farms, apple orchards, canals and woodlands.

Capital-Saratoga’s historic cities and villages are surrounded by apple orchards, canals and woodlands. The charming countryside once inspired the paintings of folk artist, Grandma Moses. From world-class horseracing to festivals celebrating Dutch heritage, eclectic attractions highlight rich traditions. Many waterways—including the 29-mile-long Great Sacandaga Lake—offer four-season recreation.

In Albany tour the Capitol, a marvel of 19th-century grandeur. Catch a performance at Washington Park’s open-air Park Playhouse or The Egg, a unique oval-shaped structure at the Empire State Plaza. Take a river cruise on the Dutch Apple, or hop aboard the Albany Aqua Duck that rolls through historic neighborhoods and then splashes down into the Hudson River for a water view of the spectacular skyline.

Captain JP Cruises set off from Troy, known for its Victorian architecture and Tiffany windows. Diverse shops and restaurants include a new Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. With near-perfect acoustics, the 1875 Troy Music Hall attracts world-famous musicians. Families enjoy ValleyCats baseball games at Bruno Stadium.

Follow the historic Erie Canal through the Schenectady area on the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway. Schenectady’s Stockade District features the largest collection of colonial houses in the US. Discover War of 1812 history along the Champlain Canal at the Skenesboro Museum in Whitehall, birthplace of the US Navy.

In Stillwater, Saratoga National Historical Park highlights the Battle of Saratoga, turning point of the American Revolution. Nearby Saratoga Springs is renowned for its bubbling mineral springs, performing arts center, world-class polo, and Thoroughbred racing at Saratoga Race Course. Saratoga Casino & Raceway features harness racing, gaming, and a nightclub.

With their Main Street shops, covered bridges and legendary trout stream, the villages of Cambridge and Greenwich maintain a timeless charm. Just outside Cambridge, the nuns at the New Skete Monastery sell heavenly cheesecakes.
