Long Island

Long loved for white-sand beaches, opulent Gold Coast mansions and fabulous shopping, Long Island is now an acclaimed wine region. More than 40 wineries dot the North and South forks. Along with celebrated local wines, you’ll find great seafood and fresh local produce in abundance.

Discover the pleasures of an island getaway—white sand beaches, quaint fishing villages and seaside dining—just minutes from New York City. With some 40 wineries along the North and South forks, you can enjoy celebrated regional wines along with fresh-caught seafood and locally grown produce.

The North Fork Trail scenic byway runs past wineries and farmland, from Southold to Orient Point on the Atlantic Ocean. On the South Fork, the Hamptons were named the ultimate summer playground by Conde Nast Traveler. East Hampton’s Main Beach and Cooper’s Beach at Southampton always make Dr. Beach’s annual list of the Top 10 in America. Enjoy swimming, sailing and occasional movie-star sightings, as well as seaside bike trails and Main Street shops and galleries.

Montauk Point boasts some of the world’s best surf fishing. Climb to the top of the historic lighthouse or saddle-up for a ride on the beach at Deep Hollow, a 350-year-old working cattle ranch. Golfing includes spectacular ocean views at Montauk Downs, one of America’s top public courses. Cool off at Splish Splash Water Park in Riverhead, voted one of the Top 15 in the US by Budget Travel.

Stroll through opulent Gold Coast mansions like Old Westbury Gardens or experience 1800s farm life in the restored shops and homes of Old Bethpage Village. At Bethpage State Park, watch world-class polo or play a round of golf on the Black Course, two-time site of the US Open. Jones Beach State Park has six miles of ocean beach, a nature center, and a theater that presents top stars. Near Queens, Belmont Park hosts Thoroughbred racing, including the famous Belmont Stakes.

Fabulous shopping options range from roadside stands selling fresh local produce to large outlet centers and Manhasset’s “Miracle Mile” of posh designers.
