For more than 200 years, New York State has been the home of world class invention and commerce. Its businesses and industries have long dominated American trade, and the state remains a leader of science, as well as a global economic force.

It is home to a whole host of historic inventions, going back over the years. In the 19th century Thomas Edison moved his Edison Machine Works there, and one of the oldest photography museums is in Rochester, at the former home of Kodak founder -George Eastman. The state is even the original home of Jell-O, which has its own museum in LeRoy!

New York State has been home to many industrialists and inventors, whose opulent lifestyles can be glimpsed at their mansions, now historic sites. Among them are Long Island’s Gold Coast mansions; John D. Rockefeller’s Kykuit and the Vanderbilt mansion in the Hudson Valley.

  • Midway State Park, Chautauqua Allegheny - Located on Chautauqua Lake, Midway State Park is one of the oldest amusement parks in the nation.
