The Adirondacks

A vast wonderland of sky-high mountains, lush forests and pristine waterways, the Adirondacks have attracted vacationers for over 100 years.

The six-million-acre Adirondack Park is the largest park—state or national—in the mainland US. With 3,000 lakes and ponds, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 46 High Peaks, it is a haven for fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. Amid spectacular scenery, you’ll find family-friendly attractions, wilderness adventures, historic Great Camps and world-class resorts.

Lake Placid features lodging options from the rustic Adirondak Loj & Wilderness Campground to luxury hotels like The Whiteface Lodge, named one of the world’s best resorts by Travel + Leisure. At the Olympic Sports Complex, you can take a chairlift to the ski jump tower or ride the summer bobsled. You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world after a hike or drive up Whiteface Mountain. The Cloudsplitter, called the most scenic gondola in North America, will whisk you to the summit of Little Whiteface.

Explore history and nature centers like the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake or Tupper Lake’s W!ld Center. In friendly villages like Jay and Saranac Lake, galleries highlight regional art and craft. Historic sites include Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain, a strategic site during the French & Indian War and the American Revolution.

Lake George is famous for crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches. Take a steamboat cruise, hike to the top of Prospect Mountain for a bird’s eye view, or shop in the many antique shops and designer outlets. For kids, and the young at heart, the best tradition is a trip to the Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom.
